Mom is making an apple pie for family's Friday night dessert, while dad is still at work. He is waiting for the last boat to leave. This boat trip seem to be very popular with only 8 pence a ticket and chilled milk & berries at the cafe for excited travelers.</div>

I got inspiration for these paper pieced dolls from Kumiko Fujita's book '318 Patchwork patterns'. It is a delicious book with adorable pictures from front page to the last. The patterns are actually meant for hand sewing, but we can tweak them and sketch out on graph paper to turn them into paper piecing patterns.<br />

This girl is in the book but I changed her face and hair style to give her piggy tails.. I find pig tails on little girls extra sweet, even more so when they go up and down swinging to the dance steps!<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was afraid of spoiling their faces if I stitch their eyes with thread, so I thought of sewing black beads but the ones I got turned out too big for the tiny faces. So I couldn't escape this necessary step. <span style="text-align: justify;">It was a relief to see they came out well with twinkly eyes and sparkly smiles ( * v * )</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I got a little bit stuck on how to convey the sailing boat feeling. When I was looking through the fabrics I found one border print with clouds. After fussy cutting, it was perfect fit for a boat gently swaying on the waves.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used regular batting for the inside and plain linen on back side of the mat. Dolls are about 2.5" x 5" in size if I remember correctly. My friend said she likes her tea mats, that made me very happy :)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hi friends, hope you are enjoying a bubbly summer, going to beach or swimming in a cooling pool ( ' u ' )</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JnzqXgihRwg/VYm1m6yFtHI/AAAAAAAADgY/AwOuUUpiBEA/s1600/DSC_1182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JnzqXgihRwg/VYm1m6yFtHI/AAAAAAAADgY/AwOuUUpiBEA/s640/DSC_1182.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I managed very little sewing in the last month, mostly due to my laziness but I could blame it on bird songs and bright blue skies ;)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have you heard of <i>Guy Latulippe</i>? <a href="http://www.guylatulippe.net/" target="_blank">Guy</a> is a designer and also a teacher at <a href="https://www.theworkroom.ca/people/guy-latulippe/" target="_blank"><i>'Work room</i>'</a> in Canada. He creates unique bag patterns for his <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/guylatulippe" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>. I was completely smitten with the clean lines and cleverness behind each of his bag designs when I saw them for the first time last year and bought three of his patterns.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2S_jrkZsvW1mG2bS0NlWiVJ12dG6EmOe7BbU99dk2316Jv1LbUgMLliPR1FP6Tnui8CbyxzlWVhJSVlEuq11WL3en_aPcAHfPWkexL5VRGFUabksTyb7b9U0hMEm6dNeHLlU5J5EJU_-N/s1600/DSC_1185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2S_jrkZsvW1mG2bS0NlWiVJ12dG6EmOe7BbU99dk2316Jv1LbUgMLliPR1FP6Tnui8CbyxzlWVhJSVlEuq11WL3en_aPcAHfPWkexL5VRGFUabksTyb7b9U0hMEm6dNeHLlU5J5EJU_-N/s640/DSC_1185.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Market tote is one them. It is generously sized (18"L x 15"H) with 6 outer pockets, 3 on either side and plenty of storage space, perfect to take for market trips, picnics on beach or even for sewing retreats. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yrzTc0HzQ2g/VYm1m-MgiMI/AAAAAAAADgU/S3TLQMmUSUs/s1600/DSC_1196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yrzTc0HzQ2g/VYm1m-MgiMI/AAAAAAAADgU/S3TLQMmUSUs/s640/DSC_1196.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Only addition I made to the pattern is the inside pocket for quick access to a notepad or wallet or keys. I was making these bags for two dear friends, when picking fabrics I tried to pick something they might have chosen for themselves. I don't know if I get full marks there but I still hope they find it new and exciting ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PuNbvlQynoQ/VYm1qII9_FI/AAAAAAAADg0/h3X_tX3yKjM/s1600/DSC_1200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PuNbvlQynoQ/VYm1qII9_FI/AAAAAAAADg0/h3X_tX3yKjM/s640/DSC_1200.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Guy's pattern was like an excellent teaching lesson, I learned many things while sewing this bag, his instructions walk us through every step and minute detail with lot of care and ease. I am also very thankful for the hand drawn sketches and scribbled notes at every stage which even included pressing directions for seams. Not a small detail was missed.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I bought a hard copy for the full size templates and instructions came in PDF form. It was so nice to have full size templates ready to use without having to worry about taping or enlarging, I really appreciated it.<br />
<br />
For interfacing, I used <i>'Annie's soft and stable'</i>. I came to know about this product through my friend <a href="http://stephaniedunphy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Stephanie</a>. I also lined the lining fabric with <i>SF101</i> by <i>Pellon</i> to add bit more sturdiness.</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thank you so much, Guy for sharing your insight and experience through these amazing patterns. I wouldn't have dreamed to produce a professional looking bag without your guidance!!</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Along with bears and bunnies, I burrowed deep during snowy winter and kept busy with log cabin blocks, Kalyan's old shirts mixed with fun fabrics from stash resulted in this patchwork quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvJtnjZdQ3cgywCXL2eSr4HHTZuwFKNV3aMgw-k0quPZrhp_FC_nbpKmx5WaN21FiT_pdiWnjP8CEiOvOmh76dnpknWPdO8Ik6qRXu47OAvbc80tF0OtG2b8ULt4LW9UofjmyV33ZbDc42/s1600/DSC_1101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvJtnjZdQ3cgywCXL2eSr4HHTZuwFKNV3aMgw-k0quPZrhp_FC_nbpKmx5WaN21FiT_pdiWnjP8CEiOvOmh76dnpknWPdO8Ik6qRXu47OAvbc80tF0OtG2b8ULt4LW9UofjmyV33ZbDc42/s1600/DSC_1101.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is loosely based on wild flower theme. I picked a bright orangey red and a mossy green flower print from <i>Heather Ross</i>, <i>Far far away</i> collection for the center squares. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXARahp4UiSSpNJ4rH7rmWLjV2GgnzXturlr6BXqALHPOZ3TglzmjLAN-tkbeM3UYIxJV9cvmgTcKSh7dLRi7aKf8X5FQ0qBOUmwrIcL1wrbeQK9-gsmw12tlAIeUpecQ8-NRL2Gvwh8y5/s1600/DSC_1062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXARahp4UiSSpNJ4rH7rmWLjV2GgnzXturlr6BXqALHPOZ3TglzmjLAN-tkbeM3UYIxJV9cvmgTcKSh7dLRi7aKf8X5FQ0qBOUmwrIcL1wrbeQK9-gsmw12tlAIeUpecQ8-NRL2Gvwh8y5/s1600/DSC_1062.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For almost a month, I did nothing but taking shirts apart and cutting them into 1.5" strips. I had also cut lot of strips from fabrics which reminded me of things Kalyan likes. As I kept making the blocks I had to make a hard decision and leave out a bunch of strips due to their busyness or odd color.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fBHlzVj0KCo/VS7G56vg2JI/AAAAAAAADeY/U5jcfVniIYU/s1600/DSC_1056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fBHlzVj0KCo/VS7G56vg2JI/AAAAAAAADeY/U5jcfVniIYU/s1600/DSC_1056.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I had enough blocks I started to lay them out on the design wall and realized some of the dark fabrics I used were making the quilt too dark and not so cheery as I hoped. So I remade 20 blocks and seam ripped dark sections of another 10 blocks as it seemed a waste to remove them completely. That also tested my patience ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OqFCUwI5osc/VS_KD7OswXI/AAAAAAAADf8/A6jhvy1-8Nc/s1600/DSC_1126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OqFCUwI5osc/VS_KD7OswXI/AAAAAAAADf8/A6jhvy1-8Nc/s1600/DSC_1126.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wanted to make this quilt light and airy to be able to use in spring and autumn, so I tried a new batting (<i>Fairfield Nature-Fil</i>) 50% bamboo and 50% organic cotton, it is really soft and light weight., and a breezy double gauze fabric for the backing. This print is <i>Fuccra</i> by <i>Nani Iro</i>. I didn't have enough of it, so I combined it with a playful animal print by <i>Mico's designs</i> for the back.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdNv_AjoBIy4OfyiBod8HBaS58qlfL1E7nlxjp4QJmq-oBjf49BaKNMfWP_0stjm3NJgas_rfP_SLeWaHPSKCPd0WNyylZoywqRNM5cgpmVkcagReGlrpnwX6vbSo26tkokD0lEWs-eff4/s1600/DSC_1134.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdNv_AjoBIy4OfyiBod8HBaS58qlfL1E7nlxjp4QJmq-oBjf49BaKNMfWP_0stjm3NJgas_rfP_SLeWaHPSKCPd0WNyylZoywqRNM5cgpmVkcagReGlrpnwX6vbSo26tkokD0lEWs-eff4/s1600/DSC_1134.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The flowery gauze on the edge makes me think of rainy days when leaves are shining with raindrops and tiny flowers are at their brightest. A wild boar and piglet print was begging to be included, so I sneaked in small pieces into the binding. These two fabrics are Japanese import by <i>Kobayashi.</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoCVaQaVekeSRD4V9zOFWHEAV3kr6uSMNTkf8ULipw6Zb0A0l2DSxZHxeTHElB1LA_E-gFSvqm4JSokIvO8KYhhnSnxVA37qhyHy8dLVu1Exz4yyQK0BGW_rHOfLrxXa5CI0lHoCZ4gSkZ/s1600/DSC_1106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoCVaQaVekeSRD4V9zOFWHEAV3kr6uSMNTkf8ULipw6Zb0A0l2DSxZHxeTHElB1LA_E-gFSvqm4JSokIvO8KYhhnSnxVA37qhyHy8dLVu1Exz4yyQK0BGW_rHOfLrxXa5CI0lHoCZ4gSkZ/s1600/DSC_1106.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I thought I chose a simple pattern for practicing long arm quilting, but the smooth curving loops proved tricky with no place to pause when I needed to loosen up and relax my shoulders. The curves I did are not so smooth or shapely, but I was relieved that at least the lines didn't run over each other where they are not supposed to! Quilt size is 72" x 90".</div>

<br />
Blocks in this quilt being sharp and square, I tried to soften the look by rounding the corners. A bright blue bias tape with orange fruits and white flowers was so attractive that I fell hard for it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCQztRMIeHgaIGx74XByqksHZAMQiu2di67vx7Rl9TGJnYdEisr4JpiabDnDByI5wCkRWNvoVxBq69_xSMZhimgvEHPpCqxqbdsoODM454A3kAKF9FIuvYRQznSCGKl7Yqqkz2P1vxvT5B/s1600/DSC_0937.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCQztRMIeHgaIGx74XByqksHZAMQiu2di67vx7Rl9TGJnYdEisr4JpiabDnDByI5wCkRWNvoVxBq69_xSMZhimgvEHPpCqxqbdsoODM454A3kAKF9FIuvYRQznSCGKl7Yqqkz2P1vxvT5B/s1600/DSC_0937.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It is my first time trying bias binding on a quilt. I followed <a href="http://thehabygoddess.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/tutorial-adding-bias-to-curves.html">this tutorial</a>. The step where bias tape is set in place around the corners by pressing with an iron was very helpful. This allowed the bias tape to settle in without any resistance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0N0j3VFYh1U/VPxkCUAqduI/AAAAAAAADcM/aOKkqZYvPC8/s1600/DSC_0943.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0N0j3VFYh1U/VPxkCUAqduI/AAAAAAAADcM/aOKkqZYvPC8/s1600/DSC_0943.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Since the alphabets wanted to keep every bit of attention for themselves, I left them alone and did a simple stitch-in-ditch quilting in the sashing. And the borders are slightly different widths on different sides.<br />
<br />
Pattern for this quilt is available on<a href="http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> <i>Temecula Quilt Co.</i> blog.</a><br />

Most of the blocks are from <i>Susan Briscoe's</i> '<i>130 mini quilt blocks</i>'. I am also using '<i>500 quilt blocks</i>' book by <i>Lynne Goldsworthy</i> and <i>Kerry green</i>, adjusting measurements to make them into small size. I adore this book and starting to refer to it often. It is a must have on any quilt lover's book shelf.</div>

Valentine's day is almost here with pretty chocolate boxes in mouthwatering flavors tempting at every turn. I got to thinking about making a cute candy of patchwork kind with our own favorite fillings and shiny wrappers that won't disappear in a matter of seconds but are safely satisfying.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A short tutorial if you are also in a chocolate mood :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Candy block size = 2.75" square.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Choose a fussy cut center ( a ) - cut 1 square - 1. 5".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
choose background ( b ), candy wrapper (c ) - cut 1 of each, 1. 5" square.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
background (d ) - cut 4 rectangles - 1. 5" x 1 1/8" wide.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
background (e) - cut 2 squares - 1 1/8".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Make 2 Half square triangles with b, c. Trim to size 1 1/8".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
( <i>steps to make Half square triangle block is in the above photo</i> )</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: center;">For a snowball like center piece..</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Cut 2 squares from background ( f ) = 3/4" </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Take center square ( a ). Place ( f ) on opposite corners. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Draw a line from corner to corner diagonally. Sew on this line.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Trim the edge leaving 1/4" seam allowance. Press corner piece to outside.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Now follow the above photo and sew the pieces together one row at a time, pressing seams toward ( d ).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Sew top row to center row, press seams open.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Now sew the last row to the center row, press seams open. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Enjoy your colorful candy!</div>

These are the blocks for <a href="http://thepatchsmith.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Amanda's</a> <i>Block-a-day</i> quilt along. I came to know about it recently and got so smitten with her mini patchwork blocks that I couldn't stop myself from tagging along. Only rule is to use scraps and have fun. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some of the patterns I followed are from '<i>Quick little quilts</i>' book which has neat lessons for piecing tiny blocks including pressing directions which was very helpful for my first blocks. Quilting.about.com also has nice tutorials to make them in different sizes. I am waiting for Susan Briscoe's '130 mini quilt blocks' book in the mail, then I can simply turn a page and make a block for that day :)</div>

The quilt in the original pattern was a bit small to be a play mat. So I changed the layout and separated the blocks with creamy yellow dots, a vintage pillowcase in its past life., nice to see it blend in and get along so well with new fabrics.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We are waking up to see either rain or snow every day. Only these scrappy strings are saving me from becoming dull and sleepy. Sewing these colorful blocks really brightened my mood and I am able to ignore the grey sky outside.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RbJNFxqsLbM/VInhvUWdLhI/AAAAAAAADQ8/StktCvFzzhM/s1600/DSC_0614.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RbJNFxqsLbM/VInhvUWdLhI/AAAAAAAADQ8/StktCvFzzhM/s1600/DSC_0614.JPG" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Isn't this blue fisherman the cutest! It is one of the scraps sent by my dear friend, Beverly. As I was putting the blocks together, I kept spotting her adorable scraps, and thinking how special they make this quilt.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/92876219@N08/" target="_blank">Beverly</a> is the kindest sweetest soul one could imagine.. more I get to know her, more I realize what a rare gem she is! Her cheerful patchwork style is so unique and amazing! I easily drop everything to simply sit and gawk at her projects. She is a great inspiration for me! Thank you, Beverly!! ( ' u ' )</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With 12 string X blocks of 14" size, it is a small quilt, only 41" x 55". I like the casual way these X's are spread out, so I am thinking of leaving the quilt top as it is without adding borders.<br />
<br />
The blocks are slightly wobbly due to the stretchy linen I used for the background. I am hoping it won't be a problem when the quilting is done ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CEEpg0BpkpA/VInpgx12RoI/AAAAAAAADR4/KwFha_SNFDQ/s1600/DSC_0600.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CEEpg0BpkpA/VInpgx12RoI/AAAAAAAADR4/KwFha_SNFDQ/s1600/DSC_0600.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It only takes a few stolen moments to make this quilt, so simple and relaxing to sew. I am excited to see a good dent in the string pile too! Pattern for this quilt is on <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/string-x.html" target="_blank">Quiltville blog</a>.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here is the mystery scrap quilt in its completed state.. after patiently waiting for almost a year, it is suitably rewarded with quilting and binding.. I can almost hear its sigh of relief :)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CQTvdx6L3Xs/VHIBQaa_v6I/AAAAAAAADMo/YL-bScZKk5U/s1600/IMG_4196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CQTvdx6L3Xs/VHIBQaa_v6I/AAAAAAAADMo/YL-bScZKk5U/s1600/IMG_4196.JPG" height="496" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The only reason I believe it got finished is due to a long arm quilting class I recently took. Quilting large quilts on my small sewing machine is getting bothersome. I could clearly sense the danger of quilt tops stacking up if the same situation continues.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I thought I will just take this class and see if I am up to any good. My first trial on a practice piece provided by our teacher was really hopeless. My hands were shaky and shoulders were tense and being watched by a number of friendly, equally anxious eyes in the class made me even more nervous. My quilting went all over the place except where it should be!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYhMN7ZzXhMi3lsewfGfUErUUrgOBi2WazE3Iw-sgvJ3VYnRBMfWqLojW0c_PidIauPhCWj9tCjCZiBjz9we2Z06hfyDS_Ug8myqpusOWeL_prv-fjbsi2psPUo87PK42FgDQHD2apvGHs/s1600/IMG_4193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYhMN7ZzXhMi3lsewfGfUErUUrgOBi2WazE3Iw-sgvJ3VYnRBMfWqLojW0c_PidIauPhCWj9tCjCZiBjz9we2Z06hfyDS_Ug8myqpusOWeL_prv-fjbsi2psPUo87PK42FgDQHD2apvGHs/s1600/IMG_4193.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My second trial another day went a little better than I expected. Spending some lone time with the machine helped me to know it slightly better and having a cheerful teacher close by was a lovely bonus to loosen up.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our teacher Laurena @ <a href="http://www.burlingtonlongarm.com/" target="_blank">Laurena Longarm quilting</a> is an amazing person, so sweet always with a ready smile and limitless patience. As I could guess from the few times I was there, she is very busy with quilting work she does for customers, but when someone happens to rent a Longarm machine to use, she puts all her personal work aside and gives priority to helping the quilter. She is really like a fairy with an invisible ring over her.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zol9dSGp9f8/VHIB0oTjhmI/AAAAAAAADNA/dfoOxYr09UM/s1600/IMG_4181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zol9dSGp9f8/VHIB0oTjhmI/AAAAAAAADNA/dfoOxYr09UM/s1600/IMG_4181.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did feel guilty to hog her time plenty of times but Laurena is always smiling with an encouraging word and makes us laugh with her sweet sense of humor soothing away any anxieties on our part. If you are around Boston, planning to learn Long arm quilting, I would highly recommend taking a class from her ( ' u ' )</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OB4AsZ_TnZ0/VHM64rX3GsI/AAAAAAAADNY/klYSc10qvlc/s1600/IMG_4180.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OB4AsZ_TnZ0/VHM64rX3GsI/AAAAAAAADNY/klYSc10qvlc/s1600/IMG_4180.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I chose a butterfly design called Angel wings and picked a light yellow thread to hide my irregular quilting and beginner mistakes. On the whole, quilting went smoothly. After 3 or so rows, I became more comfortable with moving the long arm even if my quilting was only up to a low standard. Selecting a thread that blends into the background was a good idea ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbTcK_J2ikU/VHIBNivxLTI/AAAAAAAADMU/CZ3QBBCtK5E/s1600/IMG_4190.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbTcK_J2ikU/VHIBNivxLTI/AAAAAAAADMU/CZ3QBBCtK5E/s1600/IMG_4190.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My friend is a school teacher, she loves anything bright and cheery, so I pieced this apple print and a green chalk board print for the back. Quilt size is 83" x 83". Her Birthday is next month, so I am excited to finish it just in time and mail it to her.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hCRcMSmNCtM/VHNN3-3lwBI/AAAAAAAADNo/bv3vEQQZXEQ/s1600/DSC_0351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hCRcMSmNCtM/VHNN3-3lwBI/AAAAAAAADNo/bv3vEQQZXEQ/s1600/DSC_0351.JPG" height="422" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">Charlotte who designed Scrapitude mystery quilt last year is planning another mystery called '<i>Scrap in a box </i>' to start in January. She already gave cutting instructions which are posted on her friend </span><a href="http://quiltingfortherestofus.com/blog/scrapitude-2015-scrap-in-a-box-cutting-instructions/9/8/2014" style="text-align: justify;" target="_blank">Sandy's blog</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> if you are interested. Charlotte is a genius at making beautiful quilts with scraps.. on popular demand, she started a </span><a href="http://scrapitudequilts.com/" style="text-align: justify;" target="_blank">blog</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> to share her delightful quilts and clever tricks to manage our own scraps. It is going to be a great chance to learn from her. Thank you, Charlotte!! </span><br />

<br />
A huge thanks to Sandy for organizing first round of mystery quilt along, introducing her dear friend Charlotte to us!! ( ' u ' )</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A very pretty pink quilt arrived in Spring sweeping me off my feet with its beauty as well as the generous spirit of a friend it contained.. I still can't believe this sweetie has come to live with us and keeping us extra warm lately. Thank you very much <a href="http://www.squashhousequilts.com/" target="blank">Candace</a>, I can only imagine the amount of care and affection that went into every stitch you put into it, not to mention hours of planning, plotting and sewing!!!</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Knobs and grooves of corduroy, cotton candy colors, a gorgeous green print combined with Candace's incredible paisley quilting, this quilt has so many lovely layers both for the eyes and to the touch., too beautiful to describe but I am sorry that I failed to capture it in the pictures. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When Candace explained the Diwali inspiration for this quilt and the Indian connection it has, I was deeply moved to the core. Please visit <a href="http://www.squashhousequilts.com/" target="blank">Squash house quilts</a> to read about it in Candace's own words, since I know very well I won't be able to do proper justice if I attempt to spell out the special meaning behind it. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am falling short of words to express even my own emotions here.. to say the least, I am doubly flattered and humbled that this quilt evolved from the creativity and hard work of two friends I admire and cherish! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Corduroy road quilt pattern is another of <a href="http://stephaniedunphy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Stephanie's</a> brilliant ideas. Being such a big block, it allows the prettiness of fabric to shine through, provides a playground to experiment with colors or show off stunning quilting designs like Candace did.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B_HjXiwbSwk/VGXVeD4lbPI/AAAAAAAADKg/1AzSDLMxKhs/s1600/IMG_3377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B_HjXiwbSwk/VGXVeD4lbPI/AAAAAAAADKg/1AzSDLMxKhs/s1600/IMG_3377.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Stephanie is one of the first friends who nudged me gently towards starting a blog all those years ago and ever since then she stayed by my side with her unwavering encouragement. Soon after that, I was lucky to meet Candace and some wonderful friends who opened up my world to a much happier brighter spot. It warms my heart to think that by coincidence, the name of this quilt also reflects the friendship road I've taken ( ' u ' )</div>

Thank you Stephanie, Candace for all the love you shower on us, Kalyan and I are going to be enjoying this quilt for many many years collecting nice memories along the way, thinking of you and what a blessing you have been in our lives!!!<br />

Stephanie shared a mesmerizing green and blue version of this quilt on her <a href="http://stephaniedunphy.blogspot.com/2014/11/corduroy-road.html" target="_blank">blog</a>, the colors she chose and the intricate quilting done by her very talented quilter are pure magic!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E0J7BQHQSzU/VGTRXMe5HYI/AAAAAAAADKQ/LcW6UouX6Hw/s1600/IMG_3113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E0J7BQHQSzU/VGTRXMe5HYI/AAAAAAAADKQ/LcW6UouX6Hw/s640/IMG_3113.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It's a growing problem to keep up with scraps that sneakily take over space in the sewing room. Most of the bigger pieces found a place in my <a href="http://lakuandmuki.blogspot.com/2014/03/scrapitude-quilt-top.html" target="_blank">Scrapitude quilt</a> last year, but with strings I had no idea what to do with their odd sizes. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ku6JXzbxInk/VGTNIghQ0nI/AAAAAAAADJ0/EgTjnYKLdpM/s1600/DSC_0494.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="430" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ku6JXzbxInk/VGTNIghQ0nI/AAAAAAAADJ0/EgTjnYKLdpM/s640/DSC_0494.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After looking around for a simple mindless sort of project I came across String-X pattern by Bonnie Hunter on <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Quiltville blog</a> and loved the concept of foundation piecing the strings. There are lot of tissue papers lying around the house, so I just cut them into 4.5" x 10.5" rectangles and started sewing the strings on to the paper. Tutorial is <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/string-x.html" target="_blank">here</a>, if you want to check it out :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F4bDu8AOPh8/VGTMhnqUYbI/AAAAAAAADJg/uhNmvwEIEvc/s1600/DSC_0526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F4bDu8AOPh8/VGTMhnqUYbI/AAAAAAAADJg/uhNmvwEIEvc/s640/DSC_0526.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After string piecing, I have around 56 of these units. It's a content feeling to see the pile of strings getting smaller and smaller. There are still a bunch of leftovers but they happily fit in a ziplock bag, it won't be long before they are bulging out again, right! ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl-rRrAc8S5Y3n2XiS7pCRmpBmbine7vSTNshe7jqoNxdF6YYHp2AG5a3GYlCXDlbwFLY1UQprGQS2VY8tul_34XPOiZpkSZzmROBSgyheaazu7Auq3cztu6VTKSB-k-Fiy7Pgkqj04zHi/s1600/DSC_0528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="458" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl-rRrAc8S5Y3n2XiS7pCRmpBmbine7vSTNshe7jqoNxdF6YYHp2AG5a3GYlCXDlbwFLY1UQprGQS2VY8tul_34XPOiZpkSZzmROBSgyheaazu7Auq3cztu6VTKSB-k-Fiy7Pgkqj04zHi/s640/DSC_0528.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And there is this pesky linen which was bothering me. Though it looks innocent in the picture, it is somewhat stretchy and slippery and not at all suitable for precise piecing. I got it randomly online and was not very cheap. So I felt this might be a quilt that could welcome it openly.. keeping fingers crossed that the blocks will fit reasonably well ;)<br />
I haven't cut the background pieces yet, maybe I will do some of this work today.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you for stopping by, stay warm and have a great weekend! ( ' u ' )</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wednesdays and Sundays are favorite days of the week lately because a new Letter pops up on <a href="http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/search/label/Little%20Letters" target="_blank">Temecula blog</a> on these days.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sewing the block in this quilt along is like munching on a potato chip, only lasts for a brief blissful moment in the mouth and not possible to pause in the middle without emptying the whole packet ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_pPlTlOZVQZvBwxvmCVhHdzs0Mk15Yla0PWKtdEb74aJZo3xsQ5USEvALriU3WlFFevklmQHnJH3oEAkZf2wVH33btxdLtPKCj-PH_AIXycKwxeUrGyPX8_afZjKoyPd9XJU0H7zpxabx/s1600/DSC_0388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_pPlTlOZVQZvBwxvmCVhHdzs0Mk15Yla0PWKtdEb74aJZo3xsQ5USEvALriU3WlFFevklmQHnJH3oEAkZf2wVH33btxdLtPKCj-PH_AIXycKwxeUrGyPX8_afZjKoyPd9XJU0H7zpxabx/s1600/DSC_0388.JPG" height="442" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is also some tension in this process, because I keep thinking if I have the right fabric suitable for that alphabet or not.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JtBPVQyujeg/VFDm8PU4ahI/AAAAAAAADIs/B78uWPG4upw/s1600/DSC_0393.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JtBPVQyujeg/VFDm8PU4ahI/AAAAAAAADIs/B78uWPG4upw/s1600/DSC_0393.JPG" height="468" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Luckily, I was able to cover for the letters until now and also discovering fabrics that I almost forgot about.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O2ckdPkzjcQ/VFDlYL-aJpI/AAAAAAAADIg/ZIO4EIoREYw/s1600/DSC_0385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O2ckdPkzjcQ/VFDlYL-aJpI/AAAAAAAADIg/ZIO4EIoREYw/s1600/DSC_0385.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Like this fat quarter with kitchen theme, I haven't noticed a Jar of Jam on it before., I felt a relief to find it!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yQlQxVjaCtQ/VFDlQV4yvBI/AAAAAAAADII/W3Xsn4Azuk4/s1600/DSC_0403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yQlQxVjaCtQ/VFDlQV4yvBI/AAAAAAAADII/W3Xsn4Azuk4/s1600/DSC_0403.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am also having fun making up silly stories in my head like this Little lamb who lost its way during a treasure hunt. I really hope there is a happy ending to the story.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mouse family is too busy preparing for milk and cheese breakfast to notice anything else, their life is so simple and salty!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Salty is only for mouse who loves cheese! For you, I wish for sweet cinnamon scents, pumpkin pies, </div>

Apple picking quilt in butter cream, and sunny yellow patches is ready to flap its wings to a new home. ( ^ v ^ )</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbjHRlIXmQx8AAu6OtTDvG5ci541t_mW-neAvItdlJfX3vnFnRjDCYbe4dBU1dhvOTglP1tmvBHVNunQrvMSc8uRi3ImZ8aIfxFV_FlowMUqb2yfSL7KOVhJn1urpLsb4tDim5mnJHigK/s1600/DSC_0416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbjHRlIXmQx8AAu6OtTDvG5ci541t_mW-neAvItdlJfX3vnFnRjDCYbe4dBU1dhvOTglP1tmvBHVNunQrvMSc8uRi3ImZ8aIfxFV_FlowMUqb2yfSL7KOVhJn1urpLsb4tDim5mnJHigK/s1600/DSC_0416.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We missed going to the farm to pick apples this year, but looking at the bunnies, farm house and fruit trees in this quilt gave me lot of the same enjoyment.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cOarsgNkffA/VEQUJH9UMII/AAAAAAAADGM/utKABxaELIA/s1600/DSC_0428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cOarsgNkffA/VEQUJH9UMII/AAAAAAAADGM/utKABxaELIA/s1600/DSC_0428.JPG" width="640" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lOH07o3zC_s/VEQcEK-ONkI/AAAAAAAADHI/urvOS1hcRMo/s1600/DSC_0423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I can almost smell crisp green apples on trees, hear the sounds of ripening red apples falling to the ground, rustle in the bushes where bunnies are hiding and also lively piglets snorting and chomping in their pen..</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lOH07o3zC_s/VEQcEK-ONkI/AAAAAAAADHI/urvOS1hcRMo/s1600/DSC_0423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lOH07o3zC_s/VEQcEK-ONkI/AAAAAAAADHI/urvOS1hcRMo/s1600/DSC_0423.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fluffy blue clouds passing along and bright balloons floating above make it more fun to be outdoors for the visitors.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZdlDQmqEPTTu-qyRPaSCPpYzCkuDgtce8V5QsqfsCtwdZdwy8iZmESmhBZT2Zen0OAiU8j6i66Bi8PHr6ikL2ESPr7C2bMGA7P16bMJESFK8AuP7ExNAnuWm69aUpL1KnA7gU8_UHTMk/s1600/DSC_0426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZdlDQmqEPTTu-qyRPaSCPpYzCkuDgtce8V5QsqfsCtwdZdwy8iZmESmhBZT2Zen0OAiU8j6i66Bi8PHr6ikL2ESPr7C2bMGA7P16bMJESFK8AuP7ExNAnuWm69aUpL1KnA7gU8_UHTMk/s1600/DSC_0426.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Elephants are busy busy filling the trolleys with fruit, only these turtles are having the luxury to stare at the colorful sky.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1oET9-bBJ3k/VEQS5R9voII/AAAAAAAADFc/_CIj_Y9IK4A/s1600/DSC_0458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1oET9-bBJ3k/VEQS5R9voII/AAAAAAAADFc/_CIj_Y9IK4A/s1600/DSC_0458.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even worms are sneakily munching away on the apples. Before we can count 1, 2, 3.. a whole apple is gone! When I found a <i>Shinzi Katoh</i> linen tape with green apples in my trim box, I got excited and appliquéd it here on the side. I think the farmer might be really sad to see that :(</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CsZIv2b5_48/VEQURKLohiI/AAAAAAAADGY/TTwZng84aV4/s1600/DSC_0480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CsZIv2b5_48/VEQURKLohiI/AAAAAAAADGY/TTwZng84aV4/s1600/DSC_0480.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the side borders and sashing I used <i>Nani Iro Pocho,</i> it has silver dots on pale lavender. I tried few options for the binding, but only this <i>Nani Iro </i>stripe in shades of red and pink felt right. These two fabrics are cotton double gauze. Backing fabric is tiny red dots on white. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The focus print that I cut out squares from is by <i>Puti de pome. </i>It is a linen cotton mix and slightly thicker than regular cotton. Border print is also another Japanese import fabric but I am not sure of the maker. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Quilt size is around 42" x 50". ( ' u ' )</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Thank you for stopping by! Hope you have a great start into week!</i></div>

With its moss covered bricks, layers of peeling paint, weeds in the cracks, fading posters, and love messages.. it carries plenty of emotions and hidden stories about the previous owners and people who walk past this wise wall in their daily lives.<br />

I didn't forget my apple quilt though, I will get back to it soon., maybe after I get over this itch to be a brick mason for a bit ;)</div>

We already see leaves turning yellow here, that made me think of sewing these apples for a baby quilt.I opted to paper piece them to get the right size for sashing.. they are only 2 inches. And a cute apple tree fabric found in my stash to complete the theme! Don't you love these bunnies playing hide 'n' seek or enticing with yummy apples, both green and red!</div>

A friend sent me this yellow fabric with tiny flowers. I love how it became a bright spot for this quilt bringing back memories of her. If you look closely, there are also piggies in striped shirts wanting to say hello to you ^ o ^</div>

So glad to be here with a patchwork project after a long absence! Hope your summer has been tons of fun with more time for sewing than I did ( ' v ' )</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a pleasant experience to sew with gauze fabrics, petal soft and dreamy to touch. I loved making these Courthouse step blocks and planning a quilt around them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwafWGLXBUAn9MvWD7IavSO5nVMMjEFzcW1jkFEHsatPyrOlrdvB-HYqBubexh3xTY8eNJVfOn-0zWa2gdPCOpbqmQRDzQvIF2m8XXUfFLP1ruOVwuohuLnmOVFczX_0JwI4gQ06UMUAtO/s1600/IMG_3834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwafWGLXBUAn9MvWD7IavSO5nVMMjEFzcW1jkFEHsatPyrOlrdvB-HYqBubexh3xTY8eNJVfOn-0zWa2gdPCOpbqmQRDzQvIF2m8XXUfFLP1ruOVwuohuLnmOVFczX_0JwI4gQ06UMUAtO/s1600/IMG_3834.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These delicate fabrics really helped me in capturing the essence of spring season. The bear print I used in the sashing also has two lovely messages printed on it..</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
' <i>Though we are tiny beings in the universe, our hearts are deep and huge</i>.'</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
' <i>If you cherish grasses, flowers and the earth, you can talk with them</i>.'</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9vwcVTl0jTmPyVTjBBga1_1DVvNaQnpwL_9DeBZyJEzNwunETy66zHxLD0NTe6eVy2gyV4rezOxoUFauXmZMSWYwLwt0EFe_FykY3x-Cz6RDvxyJhZRQRoyO0gluAjE3ke9Ixn_4kCjlN/s1600/IMG_3822.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9vwcVTl0jTmPyVTjBBga1_1DVvNaQnpwL_9DeBZyJEzNwunETy66zHxLD0NTe6eVy2gyV4rezOxoUFauXmZMSWYwLwt0EFe_FykY3x-Cz6RDvxyJhZRQRoyO0gluAjE3ke9Ixn_4kCjlN/s1600/IMG_3822.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To keep the look simple and not to distract from the softness, I quilted it with stitch in the ditch around the blocks and did some hand quilting in the borders to extend that homely feeling.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHoVY6vOji-1gBFMdepAm6Z-Ej2Yrj1kVFIi1I5Wf5E5KKzp5MnvN3HYJ7DJJAD1khfkr20hFj9dc4H18H-xCDXxRduZ0NKFYePzXQO5LsFG-6QsqAhOKNsaA5Lk7a4CdremsSBi4MYDLi/s1600/IMG_3841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHoVY6vOji-1gBFMdepAm6Z-Ej2Yrj1kVFIi1I5Wf5E5KKzp5MnvN3HYJ7DJJAD1khfkr20hFj9dc4H18H-xCDXxRduZ0NKFYePzXQO5LsFG-6QsqAhOKNsaA5Lk7a4CdremsSBi4MYDLi/s1600/IMG_3841.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This flowery border print is Dear Mother's girlhood by Nani Iro. I felt it picks up the colors from the blocks and blends in so nicely.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ulOKFjiHtWo/U-EPZGgkgPI/AAAAAAAADBE/Es52sLL4Vxs/s1600/IMG_3839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ulOKFjiHtWo/U-EPZGgkgPI/AAAAAAAADBE/Es52sLL4Vxs/s1600/IMG_3839.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since gauze fabric is likely to stretch while sewing, the blocks were not the same size, it was only a slight difference but still noticeable when they are sewn together in rows. For this reason the partial blocks at the end of alternating rows were also trimmed accordingly ending up with an organic and charming feel to it.</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Binding is a fun mix of prints that are present in the quilt with a lion or a frog peeking through ;)</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Momma bear and cub blissfully playing in their own world., this fabric inspired the nature theme for courthouse step blocks I've been making. I gathered various prints on that idea, though the colors of the quilt were mainly inspired by spring and little of summer.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNgdn_dx146sAR9pMmF50EGygOyfi5t_YbmZGrMdeURSQojko9W8xbzjRW9DG7rI2qWyU0-zD03cNrKIgUj2IZ4-mFGQO3m7MyWzhZFQmOjIycpZjqSVN8NP3vkOtq9ZswXSZ-ChfdJns/s1600/IMG_3627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNgdn_dx146sAR9pMmF50EGygOyfi5t_YbmZGrMdeURSQojko9W8xbzjRW9DG7rI2qWyU0-zD03cNrKIgUj2IZ4-mFGQO3m7MyWzhZFQmOjIycpZjqSVN8NP3vkOtq9ZswXSZ-ChfdJns/s1600/IMG_3627.jpg" height="314" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is another coordinating print from the same collection which features tiny bear and his many friends. With only half yard pieces that I had, I combined them both to have enough for the sashing.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w2ixdohmc-w/U8Pdtq0avLI/AAAAAAAAC2s/u4iR6v59vq8/s1600/IMG_3665.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w2ixdohmc-w/U8Pdtq0avLI/AAAAAAAAC2s/u4iR6v59vq8/s1600/IMG_3665.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried a couple of layouts and settled on this arrangement. I needed to make filler blocks for the ends of alternating rows, kind of like half blocks., then trimmed the rows to even out any differences as I went sewing them together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8ShRTqgJe_Q/U8Pdyo5cFqI/AAAAAAAAC3E/DJX1XLlgvy8/s1600/IMG_3671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8ShRTqgJe_Q/U8Pdyo5cFqI/AAAAAAAAC3E/DJX1XLlgvy8/s1600/IMG_3671.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is how the rows look off center from each other with a 3" sashing strip in between the blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p1cx_Y8xjBo/U8PnzHyvWmI/AAAAAAAAC4M/62Ts7s5GGDo/s1600/IMG_3685.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p1cx_Y8xjBo/U8PnzHyvWmI/AAAAAAAAC4M/62Ts7s5GGDo/s1600/IMG_3685.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Seams on the back side.. they made me quite nervous with the fraying edges, I was worried they might disappear on me, altogether!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kMQDGatzZeI/U8RphJ_CuPI/AAAAAAAAC44/G4aq6vtjC68/s1600/IMG_3663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kMQDGatzZeI/U8RphJ_CuPI/AAAAAAAAC44/G4aq6vtjC68/s1600/IMG_3663.JPG" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This lovely Nani Iro fabric caught my eye for the border. I had barely enough, as you can see patched up with a scrap of bear fabric. So I made extra blocks for the corners and set them against the border like this. It made up for the shortage I was facing. Now it's time to pick a backing and get to quilting :)<br />
<br />
Sashing fabric is <i>Mustaherukka</i> by <i>Kokka</i>.<br />

Saturday, I woke up bright and early prompted by a very exciting plan to ogle at age old beauties in dazzling colors. I was literally swept off my feet by their intensity and warmth. Only a handful of quilts had white or cream in them. I thought you might like to have a personal chitchat with them, they sure are exuberant and bold even in their conversations.. ( ' v ' )</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
It ended up to be a noisy day with all sorts of activities, we all agreed that summer is the best time!</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My spring inspired quilt dragged into summer unexpectedly putting on more colors and character. So far there are 42 blocks. I am thinking about the layout to see if I need more blocks.<br />
<br />
These blocks are straightforward and simple to make, but the gauze fabric is like a slippery eel. I have to be careful to handle it lightly as it tends to stretch and fray easily. My next task is to trim all those loose threads in the seams. Still this fabric is so soft and addicting to use. ( ' u ' )<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Happy summer days!</i></div>
